My Story
My name is Janizelle Marichal, but I prefer to go by Jen. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor - Associate under the supervision of Amanda Sherman, LPC-S, and an Elementary School Counselor in Dallas ISD.

I am committed to creating a safe, welcoming, "come as you are" environment where you can begin your healing journey and share your story without fear, shame, or feelings of unworthiness. My approach is rooted in genuine, unconditional positive regard, fostering a space where you feel accepted and valued for who you truly are. This openness encourages self-exploration, empowering you to embrace growth and change.

My passion lies in supporting adolescents and young adults as they navigate life's challenges, including transitions, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, identity issues, relationship and friendship struggles, and career or college exploration. Coming from a background in education and mental health, I also have a deep understanding of the unique struggles faced by professionals dealing with burnout and compassion fatigue.
I am trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and enjoy utilizing its potential to facilitate your brain's natural ability to heal. Depending on your needs, I incorporate EMDR, talk therapy, play therapy, or activity therapy into a personalized therapeutic approach tailored just for you.

From a young age, I knew I had a passion for children, education, and psychology. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Florida International University, where I also worked in the School R.E.A.D.Y Lab under Dr. Katie Hart. There, I contributed to research and interventions aimed at helping young children with disruptive behaviors improve their early academic readiness and social skills at school.
After graduating, I knew I wanted to become a School Counselor, so I began teaching. For four years, I taught in Miami-Dade County Public Schools and Dallas ISD. While being in the classroom brought immense joy, I always felt called to pursue a deeper focus on mental health. This led me to attend Texas Woman’s University, where I earned my Master’s degree in Counseling & Development with a dual track in School Counseling.
For the past three years, I have served as an Elementary School Counselor, working with children aged 3–14. My role includes providing psychoeducation, social skills training, individual and group counseling, and guidance lessons. Witnessing the significant mental health needs within schools inspired me to broaden my impact beyond the school setting.

This brings me to Wellnest, where I am excited to work with adolescents and teens outside of school environments, helping them process, heal, and thrive in their ever-evolving lives.

When I’m not working, I enjoy thrifting and antiquing, reading fiction, spending time with my standard poodle Kali, and traveling with my husband.
